About Die Cut

In printing business, die cut is important process that would allow the job to work easily and smoothly. It is the printing process - which is quite old, actually - to create different designs or shapes with "punch out" style out of the paper. It's usually done by machine. The function of it is to create paper shape in large number. Printing business such as making labels, sticker, posters, paper decorations, and others need its process to be done. Printing business usually use the big machine to produce a lot of cuts quickly; while smaller hand cut only make small number of it to serve a lot of purposes.

The die cut machine is basically almost the same as printing machine. However, they serve different purposes. The board for cutting is put inside the heavy machine and then the paper is pressed to cut the shape. It has sponge plate that has hidden blades under it, which then inserted through the machine and being pressed over the paper to cut a bunch number of papers. The papers won't be loose because they're attached to certain places. The basic application also works on smaller die cut although the size and the numbers of papers produced are much smaller. As it said before, it can be used for professional and personal use. For printing business, they would have at least one die cut machine to produce stickers, boxes, letters, and many more. For personal use, it's usually done for scrapbook process and hand craft. Sometimes it can also be used for creating banners or decorations for home and party. The size may also different too, with big cut available in large sizes and small cut available is hand size

It comes in different types, such as:
  • Blank, to produce flat shape which are often found in standard die cut paper style
  • Bend, which presses flat material over certain shapes
  • Form, which forms a curvy shape over curvy surface
  • Bulge, which makes the end of a tube being bulging, by using oil, water, or rubber part.
  • Shave, which will shave the side of the paper until it reaches the required accuracy
  • Trim, which will cut the unwanted parts of blank space
  • Coin, which will form blank part with different side like standard coin

That's why die cut is considered very important in printing business and much needed to produce required design and shape.
